Since 2005 the University of Maine at Fort Kent and its educational partners throughout the St. John Valley have endeavored to develop a number of programs focused on providing college readiness, college awareness, and college learning opportunities. The College Community Project is a collection of six programs representing a lifespan of college readiness and learning opportunities for community members. The project creates a unique partnership between UMFK, public schools, and local adult education programs in order to bring children, teens, adults, and seniors the chance to participate in college readiness and dynamic learning curriculum.
The programs represented in this project include: KinderKollege, Middle School U, Early College, College Access Program, and Senior College. An additional component is the UMFK Bridge to Future Scholarship.
The project has garnered a wide range of publicity and acclaim including being emphasized in publications by the Gates Foundation. Dean of Community Education, Scott Voisine, received the Maine Dirigio Award in 2008 for Excellence in Education.
