The St. John Valley Education Partnership, better known as Educadia, developed in the summer of 2012. It is a partnership between the University of Maine at Fort Kent, MSAD #27, MSAD #24, MSAD #33, and the Madawaska School Department. Its purpose is to increase teamwork between all educational partners in the St. John Valley. Educators in the region will have access to timely, relevant, and important professional developmental opportunities, encouraging the realization of innovative educational practices for all educational levels. This cohort will also strive to provide a smooth and integrated Pre-K to 16 and adult learning educational system in the community.
On October 12th of that same year Educadia sponsored its first event, the Common Core Math Conference. The Common Core Standards were developed to foster a clear understanding of what students are expected to study and ascertain. These standards provide an environment where teachers and parents work as a unified team in order to more readily aid the student to achieve the highest level of proficiency. The conference, hosted on the UMFK campus, provided a general summary of these standards in mathematics to Aroostook County math teachers. Over 50 schools registered and attended, making the first Educadia undertaking a success.
